Walks on 100s of miles of country roads in these mountains offer breathtaking views of the mountains and sky.
The Perfect Place For a Retreat Center & Community
Cuenca, Ecuador was picked because of its low expenses, safety, ease of entry for visitors (no shots or visas required, only your passport), and also for its gorgeous, magical, and natural settings. Ecuadorian people are very friendly and helpful, “muy tranquilo!” Gaia Sagrada Eco-Community & Retreat Center is nestled in a small community called Llayzhatan (Ya-zat-yan) in the Andes Mountains, very close to Jadan (Ha-dan) which means “Close to Heaven.” What a perfect place for Gaia Sagrada!

We believe that a retreat isn't complete if it is just one medicine or the other. There is a reason we include the San Pedro medicine in our Ayahuasca retreats. San Pedro is actually a much stronger medicine than the Ayahuasca, and the shamans say that the Ayahuasca shows you what you need to change, but San Pedro gives you the power to change it.
Ecuador shamans are required to be certified, so it is a little safer to be with the medicines in Ecuador than it is in Peru. Training is not required in Peru, whereas in Ecuador it is. Here is our page that describes what you should think about in your decision to go to a Peru Ayahuasca retreat or an Ecuador Ayahausca retreat. Another thing you should consider is how safe the ayahuasca retreat center you want to go to is. Here is our page where we talk about all the safety issues we cover and why you should make sure you find someplace that has all these things covered. Don't settle for less! Safety first! Safe Ayahuasca

Medicine information (content and method of preparation)Type of Medicine:
Medicine content :
- San Pedro (Huachuma)
Our medicines are absolutely pure, with no additives whatsoever. We want you to meet the medicines in their purest form, so all the San Pedro has in it is the cactus itself, and all the Ayahuasca has is the vine and chacruna leaf, nothing more. We do not believe in putting anything else in the medicines whatsoever. It's a pure experience!Medicine preparation:
San Pedro Tea & Preparation Huachuma (San Pedro cactus) tastes very bitter. It is dark brown if properly prepared. The cactus is cut into strips or rounds (no easy task!), and is then boiled for about 6-10 hours. It is a long process. The tea must be brewed with intention and love by the shaman, and is to be respected for the wisdom it will bring whoever drinks it.
Ayahuasca: The shamans usually need an entire day, sometimes two, to prepare Ayahuasca tea medicine. They might need to continue into the night depending on how long they decide to brew the Ayahuasca recipe. It is brewed in a large pot over an open fire, with prayer and intention, which is another important ingredient. This is divine medicine, after all, that is meant for healing and transformation. Sometimes the ingredients are prepared separately in different pots and then mixed together later. It depends on the shaman and how he or she prefers to prepare the Ayahuasca recipe.
We use only stainless steel pots, as aluminum is toxic. Make sure any center you choose is using stainless steel!
