  • Gaia Sagrada Retreat Center is an Eco-Community and Retreat Center nestled in the magical Andes Mountains of Ecuador near the city of Cuenca (45 minutes), approximately 150 miles south of the equator. This retreat center consists of 55 acres of pristine land with fresh clean mountain air, peaceful pastures and gardens, whispering pine forests, starry skies with the milky way and fireflies at night, and incredible views of the mountains by day. Walks on 100s of miles of country roads in these mountains offer breathtaking views of the mountains and sky.

The Perfect Place For a Retreat Center & Community

Cuenca, Ecuador was picked because of its low expenses, safety, ease of entry for visitors (no shots or visas required, only your passport), and also for its gorgeous, magical, and natural settings. Ecuadorian people are very friendly and helpful, “muy tranquilo!” Gaia Sagrada Eco-Community & Retreat Center is nestled in a small community called Llayzhatan (Ya-zat-yan) in the Andes Mountains, very close to Jadan (Ha-dan) which means “Close to Heaven.” What a perfect place for Gaia Sagrada!

We honor all spiritual paths and you are not required to adhere to any specific religious or spiritual beliefs. You are able to be yourself! The medicine is about discovering your own direct connection with Divine Source in whatever way is comfortable for you.

We offer 5, 7 and 12 day retreats in Ecuador, and you can see our daily schedule here. (7 day retreats are the first 7 days of our 12 day ayahuasca retreat, 5 day retreats are the last 5 days of our 12 day ayahuasca retreat)

We believe that a retreat isn't complete if it is just one medicine or the other. There is a reason we include the San Pedro medicine in our Ayahuasca retreats. San Pedro is actually a much stronger medicine than the Ayahuasca, and the shamans say that the Ayahuasca shows you what you need to change, but San Pedro gives you the power to change it.

Ecuador shamans are required to be certified, so it is a little safer to be with the medicines in Ecuador than it is in Peru. Training is not required in Peru, whereas in Ecuador it is. Here is our page that describes what you should think about in your decision to go to a Peru Ayahuasca retreat or an Ecuador Ayahausca retreat. Another thing you should consider is how safe the ayahuasca retreat center you want to go to is. Here is our page where we talk about all the safety issues we cover and why you should make sure you find someplace that has all these things covered. Don't settle for less! Safety first! Safe Ayahuasca

Feel free to visit our site and read the massive amount of info we have on our site to guide you! We hope we can be of service to you in your journey within with the medicines!

Medicine information (content and method of preparation)

    Type of Medicine:
    • Ayahuasca
    • San Pedro (Huachuma)
    Medicine content :

Our medicines are absolutely pure, with no additives whatsoever. We want you to meet the medicines in their purest form, so all the San Pedro has in it is the cactus itself, and all the Ayahuasca has is the vine and chacruna leaf, nothing more. We do not believe in putting anything else in the medicines whatsoever. It's a pure experience!

    Medicine preparation:

San Pedro Tea & Preparation Huachuma (San Pedro cactus) tastes very bitter. It is dark brown if properly prepared. The cactus is cut into strips or rounds (no easy task!), and is then boiled for about 6-10 hours. It is a long process. The tea must be brewed with intention and love by the shaman, and is to be respected for the wisdom it will bring whoever drinks it.

Ayahuasca: The shamans usually need an entire day, sometimes two, to prepare Ayahuasca tea medicine. They might need to continue into the night depending on how long they decide to brew the Ayahuasca recipe. It is brewed in a large pot over an open fire, with prayer and intention, which is another important ingredient. This is divine medicine, after all, that is meant for healing and transformation. Sometimes the ingredients are prepared separately in different pots and then mixed together later. It depends on the shaman and how he or she prefers to prepare the Ayahuasca recipe.

We use only stainless steel pots, as aluminum is toxic. Make sure any center you choose is using stainless steel!

Wow what a beautiful experience! The setting is perfect – green and lush with mountains framing your view.
The center is run really well by staff and work exchangers – everything is kept clean and tidy, the food is abundant and delicious, and I felt safe all the time.
The ceremonies were sacred and sincere and the medicine was good. The shamans are amazing people – approachable, good natured, wise and full of joy.
On days off in between ceremonies you can go for walks, chill in the hot tubs overlooking a pretty pine forest, or take a nap in a hammock with a blanket;)

Things are done right here, for the right reasons – this is a place of healing.

I attended the 12 day retreat at Gaia Sagrada & it was amazing. The land is absolutely gorgeous, the people are fantastic and the ceremonies are beautiful. Jerry and all the work-exchangers/staff are some of the best people I have ever met. Christine is a awesome and has created a truly wonderful space for healing. The Shamans are amazing especially Salvador – a wise master walking this Earth. The food is clean and yummy, and very creative to boot. This is truly a life-changing experience. So so so recommended!

Gaia Sagrada has undeniably changed me. The experience has given me the courage and the confidence to do what I truly want with my life. I no longer fear failure, I no longer want to take the safe easy path through life. I’ve always been told that that I could do anything I want with my life. I was the only one that said I couldn’t. Now I know that I can and I will. It has also showed me that I don’t want to spend my life chasing money to advantage myself, I want to make the world a better place, to contribute meaningfully to our shared experience. I have nothing negative to say. Thank you Christine, thank you Jerry, thank you Salvador, thank you to all the staff, all the work exchangers, and all the beautiful people who embarked on the journey with me. ✌❤, until we meet again

We went to Gaia Sagrada may 2017 retreat 12 day retreat and it was amazing! This place is in the mountains of Ecuador with a beautiful setting. One of the main reasons I decided to go to Ecuador was the ease of getting to the retreat center. I also did not want to fight off mosquitoes in the jungle and in the mountains you did not deal with that.
After experiencing this Amazing trip with my 2 boys, I am grateful to all the workers/ Shaman and Christine. They have designed a SAFE and comfortable place for people to do real healing. I also could not imagine if the Shaman did not speak English due to all the interactions that you have with them throughout the ceremonies.
This is a place that cares about you and your journey, whatever the purpose looks like.
