I was in Santuario in February 2016. I’ve chosen this centre despite reading the bad reviews on this page, because something wasn’t quite right about them, I’ve thought.
I’ve had the “pleasure” to hear the full story and I believe that it was the true story. Well, there are only breadcrumbs of true in those bad reviews. Yes, there was a worker in the centre who was bit touchy feely sort of speak, but far from what is generally considered a sexual harassment and most of his “acts” were in public or in view of others, so he wasn’t sneaking up on girls or anything like that. Well, sometimes you get one bad egg in a dozen and he is no longer working in the centre.
This centre is a magical place not only because of its location but mainly because of the people who run it. Maestro Enrrique is very powerful healer and at the same time very nice man. My life has changed for the better since my stay and I am actually organizing a trip for my close family member at the moment to visit Santuario and planning to go back myself as soon my work commitments allow to take some time off.

You’re a great storyteller, Daniel. I heard you were finally asked to leave Santuario because you were harassing the visitors and sending threatening emails if they say anything. It’s a good thing that we have the emails so people can see who you really are, Daniel and the reality that some people should never EVER work with ayahuasca. You are the proof of that…

I wasn’t asked to leave. I left to go find the last girl that was groped to make sure she was OK. I left because I felt my girlfriend’s safety was threatened. I left because I realized it wasn’t going to matter how many times I was going to tell Maestro something needed to be done about women being groped, nothing was going to happen. And that final time was the final straw because I had been explaining since February of 2015 that a person affiliated with santuariohealing.com acted inappropriately to another guest sexually after a ceremony, and if word got out of that, no one would ever come to Santuario Huishtin, which is why I created a website for him in the first place– to remove previous scandals and dramas that existed. Instead, I got caught up in more of Maestro’s drama– including this drama. The signs were all there, but I ignored them because I thought I could get rid of the negative elements surrounding Santuario, but I didn’t realize that Maestro was attracting that for himself.

As for the e-mails, they’re already on my blog site. I’m not hiding them and I’m not ashamed, and besides that, I have the backstory explained on them as well as the complete threads following. I’ve also offered this person to speak to me privately on Skype to clear the air and get the story straight, but I’ve just gotten a lot of threatening language, which is also ironic because they’re essentially trying to threaten me with my own correspondence which I’ve already unabashedly posted. This person’s supposed name is Sacha Derwin from an IP address in Toronto, Canada, and she/he claims to be at Santuario during my stay, but I have countless people who will corroborate that there wasn’t a Sacha Derwin at Santuario in 2015 on Maestro’s guestbook during my stay. Threatening, angry language from an essentially anonymous account should say everything about this person.

And once again… this person is just confirming the drama that happens at Santuario and attracting all the guests he/she wants on his/her own.

This is a FAKE page that was created by DAN CHOE, who is NOT a representative of SANTUARIO HUISTIN. It is a CON!! Dan Choe is a dangerous, sick individual who lured us to Santuario under false pretences and then harassed us, stole our money and threatened us with physical harm if we did anything about it. He said he was working for the maestro but he was a GUEST who started a webpage on his own.- ayahuascasantuario.com. After we left, he was asked to leave Santario and is now spreading vicious rumours about the maestro and his family in retaliation. Everyone needs to know that these predatory people exist out there in the community and more regulation!! It seems ANYONE can create a page on these sites!!!! I will be returning to Santuario now that I know Dan Choe has gone because it is a beautiful place–but only now knowing that HE is gone!

Whoever is posting this needs to get their facts straight because they are now getting into the realm of slander. I have not made any money from my time with Santuario Huishtin, and in fact started my website in agreement with Maestro Enrrique because he told me a story that he was a poor humble shaman who was being exploited by other gringos, particularly someone associated with santuariohealing.com (whom I suspect is now posting this slanderous review to discredit me) who was stealing money from guests, including a $500 deposit from me as well as a $1500 deposit from a friend of mine who was dying of pancreatic cancer, as well as sexually propositioning other guests while at Santuario and even doing something extremely sexually questionable and unsafe to a guest after a ceremony.

I got lured into the trap of a shaman that I held in higher regard than he deserved. I was actually taking over the responsibilities of another person who worked with him who was the official website prior to santuariohealing.com– the official website was santuariohuishtin.com that was owned by a man named Coco. I have extensive documentation involving the business agreement I had with Maestro to assist him with bringing people as well as creating a safe environment through my website, which I was taking over from the previous “official” website. Maestro Enrrique has now had a falling out between a total of 5 different foreigners who have offered to help him in various ways because his story and loyalties change to whoever can bring him the most money.

The poster is from a Canadian IP address and posted their stay in July of 2015. I maintained a spreadsheet and detailed e-mail logs of everyone that I helped at Santuario, and there was no one from Canada visiting Santuario at that time. Also, I have the e-mails that show that I never collected a dime from my work as a volunteer assisting Maestro Enrrique. For six weeks after I came out of tambo for 90 days, I was severely bullied by a group of jealous people, and I did stand up to some of them to stand my ground against their slander and lies privately (ironically, their harassment), to which I later apologized and explained my stance why I stood up to them in the first place.

Regardless, one can see how getting involved with Santuario gets involved with a web of drama that can interfere with one’s healing, and ironically, this slanderous post actually just further reinforces that there are questionable people and business dealings that occur at Santuario. I have nothing to hide and am not ashamed of who I am or what happened at Santuario, and anyone who really wants to know more can PM me, but this little play of drama by other toxic people associated with Santuario hopefully says plenty about what someone can expect from Santuario. Besides that, this clearly angry poster who wasn’t even at Santuario during my stay is now insulting and disrespecting the women that were groped at Santuario during a five month period by attempting to draw the attention on me. Trying to discredit me does not change the fact that five women were groped a total of six times, and that does not even include details of more questionable things happening at Santuario by Maestro Enrrique as well as the people associated with it.

I am dead broke because I invested tens of thousands of dollars of my own money as well as thousands of hours of my own time for free because I believed Maestro Enrrique’s stories of being exploited by others and my desire to free him of ironically “predatory” people, and now he is trying to change that narrative once again on me being another person who supposedly exploited him, despite the fact I have the documentation that states otherwise. Nevertheless, I have no bitterness or anger towards the experience I had while at Santuario. I will always love Maestro Enrrique and forgive him and thank him for what he did show me with the medicine, and I love and forgive all those people who came in my path while at Santuario, including the bullies who attempted to slander me with lies. All beings are teachers, and in the end, they teach me love and forgiveness, even in the face of horrific and questionable actions. I bear no ill will towards anyone at Santuario, and I wish them well. I leave the person slandering me with a prayer that I learned in tambo that I have said every day to all people whom I have encountered in my life since I first learned it:

I pray that your suffering comes to an end,
I pray that you find peace in your heart,
And I pray that your spirit is protected.

I am the owner of the website http://www.ayahuascasantuario.com/. I am no longer affiliated with Santuario Huishtin, and I do not recommend that anybody visit Santuario Huishtin at this time for healing while using the plant medicine Ayahuasca.

From May 2015 through September 2015, a worker at Santuario groped five women a total of six times. My own girlfriend was groped by this worked twice. During those four months, I repeatedly told Maestro Enrrique that this behavior had to stop, and that if word of this behavior ever got out, then no one would want to come to Santuario due to safety issues. Maestro said he would do something about it, but never did anything about it over the course of four months. The last girl was groped after she received only one ceremony after a total of 6 days. To add insult to injury, Maestro Enrrique had the same worker who groped this girl also escort her out of Santuario. Also, instead of refunding her the entire amount of her two week stay, which would have been about 2800 soles, he only refunded her about 600 soles— all while never apologizing for this girl’s distress and inconvenience. Because of Maestro Enrrique’s arrogance and greed, my girlfriend and I had to sever our relationship with Santuario and Maestro Enrrique.

The other shaman at Santuario is Maestro’s brother Egner, who is a very good shaman who is not corrupted and felt deeply bad about everything that happened, but was unable to do anything because he was not an owner— only an employee under Maestro Enrrique. My girlfriend and I fully stand behind and endorse Egner 100%, but cannot at this time endorse Maestro Enrrique, and the healing center where Egner now works (El Jardin de la Paz) is infinitely safer, more peaceful, and in my opinion more beautiful than Santuario. You would get very similar service for a very similar price.

Thanks for you time and patience.

I was SEXUALLY MOLESTED by a worker named Mario. I was told I was not the only one.
They lie and say there is a translator. THERE IS NO TRANSLATOR.
I only got ONE CEREMONY IN ONE WEEK.
I paid for two weeks and got only three days of money back after leaving for obvious reasons. Basically there is NO REFUND EVEN WHEN YOU LEAVE BECAUSE OF SAFETY ISSUES THEY ARE AWARE OF AND HAVE CREATED.
I was the only person left at the community area and I feel that is how they got away without providing me the healing I was there for. Oh yeah, I was there for healing and they added to the TRAUMA I was there to overcome.
I only met the Shaman on the way in so he could take my money. I never saw him again and was not only given next to no money back but I was not even given an apology.
THIS PLACE HAS VERY BAD INTENSIONS.
Even during my only ceremony there, ayahuasca gave me visions on the cyclical way they bring people in and rip them off. I chose to assume I was just being paranoid but after my experiences, I now know that even the medicine they gave me was warning me to leave the place.
DO NOT give this person your money, he is not a healer, he is a crook.

Santuario Santuario! What a magical place. The medicine is incredibly strong, I am not one to sense “energies” much but the maestro here truly has power and I can feel it, small group dynamic, availability of isolated huts in the jungle, secondary medecines. The place itself is holy being situated on boiling hot river, and its spread out such that you can choose to spend time on your own if you prefer. Food is pretty basic but I suppose its all for the strict diet. Would be better if there was a bilingual staff around full time but it never seemed to be much of an issue since someone was usually around to translate. Was not someone in every ceremony specifically there to watch over you, but maestro and the other shamen are very aware of what is going on. Bring natural mosquito repellent…

Went there expecting nothing, event one to another led me to this place.
I’ll be honest and say that I made the trip without the intent of healing, because my motive simply was to see experience something awesome.
But I received both healing and the experience!
This place is magical, and everyone should give it a chance.

What Can I say… I was led to Santuario by a friend who had visited earlier in the year and was returning for a second time. I had experienced another retreat in Iquitos about a year back and also had an amazing time there, Santuario however was beyond any expectations I did have. Upon arriving I was greeted with open arms, warm smiles and a reassurance that I was now part of the family that resides at Santuario, made up of Enrique, his wife Ayme, their beautiful children, Enrique’s brother Hegner and all the other family/workers who call this place home. Everyone was so accommodating I never felt anything but Love whilst in the paradise. The medicine was good and the experience of ceremony always wonderful, despite the language barrier Enrique was always keen to see how we were, inside and outside of ceremony. In addition he tailored each persons stay towards their individual needs as far as the prescription of additional plant medicines and time n Tambo (isolation) were concerned and this proved to be very beneficial for each and everyone so that everyone received the healing they required. I cannot praise this place enough and hope to be returning in the near future to continue my relationship with the medicine, the plants and of course Enrique and the Familia. If you are looking for a place to experience healing or perhaps just to experience Mother Ayahuasca look no further- THIS IS YOUR PLACE! Much love x Liam

Santuario provides a unique experience like no other. Here is an otherworldly authentic life changing experience set deep within the jungle near a boiling river. Deep healing, higher dimensions of reality, and living a life of authenticity take place in this safe environment conducive to growth on all levels. I’ve made peace with the trauma of my past and no longer feel the anxiety of facing the unknown future. My experience working with the plant medicine and learning with Maestro Enrrique has enabled me to reset myself. The medicine and the healing capabilities of Maestro Enrrique resets you like a computer that’s debugged and defragged. A new lease on life is literally achieved. My body feels years younger, my emotional state is balanced and I have clarity & serenity about my existence. I feel connected and at one with the world around me. My time and commitment to Santuario and Maestro Enrrique enabled me to interact with a Divine intelligence that taught me specific lessons in imagery. I was shown the errors and entrapment of modern society. The 9 to 5 fluorescent lit-office-student loan-mortgage paying-TV-rubbish-drug addicted-sheeple mentality-oil addicted culture we are immersed in the western world is the product of that dominant colonist culture that killed those tribal people, stole their land, and tried to decimate their culture.
This path isn’t for everyone, nor should one feel obligated to experience it. It’s not a quick fix cure all either. It is a calling that will awaken you to who you really are, a deeper understanding, and a reinvestment in your health and well being. This involves following a specific diet or Dieta out of respect for the sacred medicine. The plant medicine cleanses and purifies the body. You can also enjoy guided hikes in the jungle, invigorating floral baths, rest in a hammock, and learn about the healing plants in the jungle. I invite you to do that. To explore and travel beyond the restraints of the worker ant society and consciousness you’re trapped in. Step beyond the Matrix, commit to your healing and experience Santuario! ¡Feliz viaje!

Enrique is one of the most friendly shamans I have ever met. Even with a language barrier, he is incredibly warm and interested in all of his clients, and he gives each person a lot of personal attention. When his wife Aimee joins him in singing the icaros, the blend is incredibly magical. The center itself is gorgeous – the river really adds a lot of unique energy to the land, and the whole surrounding area is very gorgeous and serene.

During the summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to stay at Santuario Ayahuasca Retreat Center for about six weeks. My intention was to do ayahuasca in order to get greater insight into persistent and limiting life patterns as well as to heal my brain chemistry. I sincerely believe that I made significant progress in both of those areas. The ceremonies were intense, fantastic, and sometimes overwhelming, but all of them absolutely invaluable to my healing and spiritual growth. Maestro Enrique creates a very safe and profoundly reverent environment in which to experience the magic of ayahuasca. I always felt like I was taken care of during ceremonies, and I always felt safe with Maestro and his family at the retreat center. Trying to accurately describe an ayahuasca ceremony is a difficult task because of the very personal and experiential nature of the plant. However, if you feel called by Madre Ayahuasca, I would encourage you to heed the call. Her wisdom is priceless, and her compassion infinite. I am still amazed at how the effects of my ayahuasca experience are manifesting in positive ways in my life. I feel more comfortable in my own skin, much less depression and anxiety than I previously experienced, and much more trust in the process of life. If you are looking for a safe place to do ayahuasca, and a powerful shaman to guide you, Maestro Enrique at Santuario is an excellent choice.

I searched far and wide for my first retreat on forums etc as i wanted it to be perfect for my first experiences. When i came across Santuario, something clicked an i knew it was the place for me.
I visited Santuario in June (2014), for my first Ayahuasca experiences. Its the most beautiful place, visually and energetically. Words can’t really articulate how great this place is.

Living facilities are great, mozzy protected dorms, proper toilets and plenty of warm water from the volcanic river.

                Good wholesome food.

This is a family run retreat with pure love at its heart. The maestro is the most grounded man i have ever come across.

You will have made the right choice going to Santuario!

I visited Santuario in June of this year to have my first Ayahuasca experience. What can I say but this place is incredible. It is a hidden gem. It is set by a volcanic river which sets the scene for a magical healing journey. The curandero and his family are so welcoming, gentle and kind. I felt at ease and at home upon arriving. This is a family run centre and everybody is beautiful and ready to offer assistance whenever necessary. I had the honour of meeting and spending some time with the curandero’s and other family members children which was healing in itself. My heart opened here and I will be forever grateful. I have already booked my return visit, that is how beautiful it is. The medicine is amazing, the curanderos are amazing, the icaros are so so beautiful, other wordly. It is a home away from here where you get to experience the beauty and magic of Ayahuasca. It will always have a place in my heart 😉

I used to fully support this centre 100 percent, but after my third visit unfortunately I no longer do. I was sexually harassed by a worker whose role was to deliver food to me whilst I was spending time in tambo (isolation). On more than one occasion he touched me on the ass without consent, and also inappropriately moved my clothing to reveal parts of my body that were not appropriate when I was receiving a treatment for a fever I had. When the curandero in charge was notified the first time something was going to be done about it, and the second time it was more a laughing matter of being naive or something along those lines then my safety being considered. I spent most of my isolation time under my mosquito net when this person was delivering my food because I did not want to risk being touched and this should never have been something I had to deal with when being involved in something as difficult mentally as tambo or at a healing centre or in general! The fact that when it was first addressed to the curandero and nothing was done about it meant that another 4 girls were also inappropriately touched by this worker before the worker was fired. This is not in alignment with healing work and needs to be addressed and brought to attention so that this centre and and others reflect what is supposed to be a safe environment for the work involved with plant medicines. I also experienced a traumatic ceremony that was not explained sufficiently for me to integrate and that along with some other issues and the groping left me with experiencing post traumatic stress once home and feeling worse than I felt when I arrived and needing to find a healer who could help repair some of the energetic damage that had been caused to my body. I had energies that did not belong to me in my field, I do not know the exact cause of these, I can only intuit. There was definite positives in this centre but the dark also needs to be brought to light to be addressed.
