  • We are a clinic of traditional medicine in Cusco, Perú offering an intense healing ayahuasca retreat in which our guests have the opportunity to voyage into self-discovery and spiritual awakening.

We strive to share the ancient knowledge of Andean and Amazonian communities with our guests helping to preserve and protect their knowledge, religious ceremonies and way of life.

Etnikas has been helping people for 28 years and was founded to re-discover ancient Inca techniques for healing that had been lost. Our retreat has been recognized by thePeruvian Ministry of Health accrediting the responsible, safe, and authentic nature of our practice.

The shaman working at Etnikas come from a variety of ethnic Peruvian communities from the high Andes (Qeros) to the tribes of the amazon basin (Shipibo). They all have many years of experience in traditional healing and shamanism and work in a caring, gentle, and loving manner to ensure the protection and safety of our guests.

Our retreats are based on small group sizes to ensure they are highly personalized, safe and secure. The retreats aim to submerge you in a deep visionary experience with strict adherence to the methodology of ancient times.

    The Retreat Centre

We are located in a beautiful temple set in the high Andean Mountains one hour drive from the centre of Cusco. The temple is set in a native forest environment and looks out over a small valley with a stream at its base. The environment is serene and relaxing and has a close connection with nature.

    Ayahausca Retreat

The Ayahuasca retreat focuses on the healing of the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. It provides a deeper understanding of yourself and the spirit of the world around us.

The Ayahuasca we use is potent and visionary in nature. We prepare our own Ayahuasca which is a combination of just two plants, Ayahuasca and Chacruna.

Our small groups of 5 – 10 people allow us personalize the retreat providing the opportunity for in depth consultation with the healers, making diagnosis, discussion, interpretation and guidance readily available. The ceremonies are guided by native Andean (Qeros) and Amazonian (Shipibo) Shamans unifying both shamanic practices from the Peruvian region.

We run one and two day retreats (both with one ayahuasca session), three day retreats (two ayahuasca sessions), and five/seven day retreats (three ayahuasca sessions). The seven day retreat includes two days visiting the sacred grounds of Machu Picchu. The shaman are accompanied by English speaking assistant(s)/translator(s) for the full duration of all our retreats.

Retreats include food (specialized diet to complement the ayahuasca experience), accommodation, and all transport from Cusco to the retreat and back.

    The Ceremonies

The Ayahuasca ceremony is performed in a safe, comfortable and supportive environment both sacred and traditional to the Inca.

The retreat starts by a purgative detoxification involving volcanic spring water. This is followed by a coca leaf oracle reading (for small groups of 5 people or less) in which the Sharman diagnoses your present state and help you to identify what you hope to draw from the Ayahuasca experience. Then a brief ceremony to cleanse and flourish is preformed to allow you to embark on the ayahuasca experience in a state of love and peace.

The dosage of your ayahuasca is determined by a physical, psychological and emotional evaluation that takes place prior to your arrival, and during stay at Etnikas. The dose of ayahuasca is taken all at once and you are guided to make your self comfortable, and listen to the shaman in preparation for the medicine to take effect. The sharman will chant iqaros or prayers/mantras throughout the four hours in which the effects of the medicine are in full effect. Tobacco smoke, energetic massage, and floral perfumes are used to create energetic protection for the ceremony.

At the conclusion of the Ayahuasca experience a ceremony is taken giving thanks to Pachamama (mother earth). The intention of this is to provide you a way to show gratitude for the healing and knowledge that you have received during your experience. It is a powerfull ceremony that allows you to think about the direct connection between you and spirit of Mother Nature.

    Sustainability

    How we ensure sustainability:

    Sustainability

Etnikas Clinic of Traditional Medicine was founded to provide a source of protection for Peruvian shaman and their ethnic communities. In the past traditional healers and their communities throughout Peru suffered discrimination and exploitation. There has been a lack of incorporation of ethnic cultural sensitivities as a result of the Spanish colonisation which can clearly be seen in the history of the colonisation of South America.

Today Etnikas is proud to be part of the movement in bringing ancient Peruvian culture back to a position of pride within its own culture and to be able to utilise the ancient healing knowledge in a way that can contribute to the broader global community. The results that the techniques are yielding are attracting attention and support from pragmatic people from all around the world.

We now work with more than 50 shamans from the Andes and the Amazon. Our masters are paid fairly (the same as a doctor earns in Peru) giving them and their trade the respect they deserve as well as opportunity for their families and communities. When you choose Etnikas you are not only healing yourself but helping to heal a community and culture.
