  • Yopo Healing Center is located deep in the Venezuelan Amazon Jungle, just by the Parguaza River, in Bolívar state. In a relatively undisturbed natural area away from urban life cities, inside beautiful Amazon rainforest.

Our retreats are intended to be as culturally low-impact as possible, honoring the ancient spiritual context, in order to help preserving the traditional pre-Columbian spiritual and religious practices of the aboriginal peoples of the Venezuelan Amazon.

The accommodations we provide are based in the way of life of the Piaroas, in the traditional way this Yopo healing experience is been done for centuries. People who can appreciate the experience of living this life changing retreat as the native does it, will have a unique opportunity to understand their culture while going into a profound spiritual journey, surrounded by this magical rainforest.

At the center we have a big Churuata (a big hut built in Indian style with a palm roof), a communitarian space for all participants, with plenty space, where everyone will count with a hammock with a mosquito net. Also there is plenty room for tents for anyone who prefers bringing their own tent.

You will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the way of living of this ancient culture, some of their traditional meals, going in hikes to the forest with the guide of natives, sightseeing wonderful natural places, going fishing in a Curiara boat and healing your body and mind with the powerful sacred medicines Caapi and Yopo.

Medicine information (content and method of preparation)

    Type of Medicine: Yopo
    Medicine content :

    Caapi and Yopo

    Medicine preparation:

The base of the snuff is prepared by Shamans with dried seeds of the tree Anadenanthera Peregrina. The dried seeds are lightly roasted and then ground into a fine powder that is mixed with ash of calcined shells. The mixture is kneaded while wet and allowed to sit and react, then it is toasted to dry it, and before use it is again ground to produce a fine powder.

During the whole process of selecting seeds, collecting the shells and cooking the mix, Shamans sings their personal magical melodies to ensure the assistance of the spirits of their elders and to imprint their spiritual power and healing knowledge on the resulting powder.

The snuff of Yopo is a powerful entheogen (derived from the Greek “entheos”/ “God [theos] within”). The main psychoactive components are DMT (N,N-dimethyltryptamine), 5-MeO-DMT (5- methoxy -DMT / 4 times stronger than DMT) and Bufotenin (5-HO-DMT / N,N-dimethylserotonin).
